My Background

I have always felt a pull towards this role, of offering supportive space to those who yearn to go deeper, who want to explore ways to grow, or to get through a time of suffering. The road to get here has been long; I completed a bachelors of science in psychology focusing on biopsychology, anatomy and physiology and have recently completed my masters in counselling psychology with honours. Over the years I have engaged in many different iterations of support work. I worked with very young children and their families with early diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder as a behavioural interventionist. Later, I worked as an educational assistant within elementary and secondary schools supporting children with alternative learning needs. I have worked frontline for the Comox Valley Transition Society in many programs including community facilitation at Connect Warming Centre, as a street outreach, housing and crisis support worker with those who live with substance use and face significant barriers to housing and basic needs, and finally as a women’s residential recovery worker at Amethyst House. I also co-facilitated a girls group aimed at supporting female or non-binary youth and currently co-facilitate a weekly Men’s discussion group. All of these experiences culminate to create a non-judgmental and gently curious presence. I feel deeply honoured to engage in this work.

How might a session go?

Perhaps you’ve heard of person-centered therapy? To me this means collaborating on the structure of our session. I encourage you to let me know if my questions or reflections are taking us in the wrong direction or away for your session goals. It is my hope that you feel empowered to provide this feedback, this honestly nurtures our therapeutic relationship. To create relational safety, I will ask permission and obtain consent.

I have noticed in my own story, that through social norms we learn very effectively to suppress emotional expression. Pulling from EFT, mindfulness and body-oriented approaches, I look to deepen awareness of emotional experience by tuning into the body’s innate and visceral wisdom. Together we will get curious about what comes up in the present moment, making space for what is there within a safe container. We will work together to integrate what we notice, perhaps weaving this into an ongoing narrative.

There is an image on this page of two people walking through the trees! If there is a specific location in nature where you would like to engage in this work, I am able to meet you there. Please indicate this during our initial consultation call and we can discuss logistics.
